Coupons are a highly configurable element of Online Paid Registration that allow you to create Discounts for Products and/or Items in your Online Stores, which can be redeemed via Coupon Codes.

Definitions

Coupon
A Coupon enables the holder to receive one or more Products or Items at a discounted rate

Codes
Codes are provided to people to redeem the coupon. eg: 'earlybird'

Code Usage
How many times the code has been used to redeem the coupon

Usage Limit
How many times the coupon can be used per code

Start Time / End Time
The codes can only be used between these dates

Limit to one product discount per order
If offering multiple Products at a discounted rate, setting this to "Yes" will restrict the coupon holder to selecting only one of the discounted Products or Items for checkout. In other words, this restricts the person to select only one of the special prices offered and not multiples.

Important: A coupon holder could checkout multiple times to circumvent this restriction - if the coupon Usage Limit allows.

Sites
Defines which Sites the coupon can be redeemed in

Product/Item Discounts
Selects which Products and Items you want to apply discounts to

Discounts
Discounts can be applied as a percentage (%) or as an Amount ($).

Important: Once a discount has been created and saved, it can not be edited. If you create a discount and then require modifications, you will need to create a new one instead.

Minimum Quantity
The Minimum Quantity in a Discount is the minimum quantity of eligible products that need to be ordered in order to apply the discount.

For example, if a discount is set to $50 off a product and the minimum quantity is set to 3, then to apply the $50 discount the user would need to add 3 eligible products to their cart (important note: if "Limited to one product discount per order" is enabled, then the discount is applied to only one product, whereas if that setting is disabled then the discount would be applied to ALL products up until the maximum quantity).

Maximum Quantity
The Maximum Quantity in a Discount is the maximum number of products that a discount can be applied to.

For example, if a discount is set to $50 off a product, with a minimum quantity of 1 and a maximum quantity of 3, then the user would get $50 off the first 3 products they order. Additional products added to their cart would not receive the discount.

Note that the Maximum Quantity must be equal to or greater than the Minimum Quantity.

Important note: in the above example, a customer could buy 3 products and then start a new order and use the discount again for 3 more - if the coupon Usage Limit allows.

Example Coupon Configuration

In the above example, we have a product called Delegate Registration, for which we would like to create a "Buy one, get one half price" coupon. The fields filled out here are explained below:

Name: the name of the discount

Type: the type of discount. In this case we want to apply a 50% discount to the second product ordered, so we've selected "percent off"

Value: the value of the discount. As we have selected "percent off" as the type, a value of 50 means we are creating a 50% discount

Minimum qty: this is the minimum quantity of products required to enable the discount. As this is a "buy one, get one half price" coupon, we need the minimum quantity to be 2

Maximum qty: this is the maximum quantity of products that a discount can be applied to. In this case, we have set the maximum quantity to 2

Limit to one product discount per order: On the left of the above example, partially greyed out, is the Limit to one product discount per order option, which has been set to "Yes". This is an important setting to have enabled - if it was set to "No", then upon adding a second product, the 50% discount would be applied to both products.
